The Next 3 Baby steps to going green

So you have made the decision to be more earth friendly. You are now an expert at turning off the lights when you leave the room, recycling, and not letting the water run when doing dishes and washing your hands. Congratulations! You are now ready for the next level of being green. Here are 3 more baby steps you can take to be greener.

Step 1 Recycle

Wait, yes I know you are already an expert at recycling. But I'm talking recycling at a new level. Recycling of goods. There are two ways to do this.

Way 1

Before you through out anything think if someone you know may be able to use it. If you don't know anyone simply drop it off at your local goodwill or salvation army. There are other services that will pick up your donations at your home here are a few.

Way 2

When it comes time to purchase something you need think about buying second hand. there are many great options out there these days. Here are some you can check out.

Thread UP is a wonderful online second hand clothing shop for women and kids. It's wonderful because you send out for a free clean out kit. They mail you a bag that you can fill with your unwanted clothing and they will credit you for the clothing they select, anything that is not up to stand they simply donate. It works out great because I plan on donating the items anyway but I can make a few bucks or use the money I'm credited to shop for clothing.

For housewares and more you can always check out these options:

For those of you who are weary of using craigslist here is a posting of some other websites like craigslist you can use.

Step 2 Change one of your cleaning products to an eco friendly cleaner

There are so many options out there now. I would recommend using the EWG website to check what is the rating of your cleaner even the eco friendly ones. Sometimes companies can be deceiving by labeling it natural and it's not that natural.

Many are very affordable and work wonderfully. Try switching out just your hand soap, or dish soap to start off with. You will see how great they work and how simple the products are to find in stores if you just look for them. If you feel like taking a bigger step then try making your own cleaning products you can check out my favorite in this posting.
